Meet your Instructors: Sarah Olsen & Roan SarroÂ

Sarah OlsenÂ
Sarah Jewell Olsen was born in Anchorage Alaska. Sarah is a ceramic artist, mother, and art teacher living and working in Vancouver, Washington. She makes utilitarian pots with a design aesthetic. The practical beauty of her work is intended to overpower the mundane, mass-produced objects, and enrich experiences. Through thoughtful craftsmanship, she intends to communicate the importance, permanence, and necessity of my pots. She received her BFA in ceramics in 2009 from University of Alaska Anchorage with Steven Godfrey. She spent a year at Oregon College of Art and Craft before earning her masters degree in ceramics from West Virginia University with Boomer Moore, Jen Allen, and Shoji Satake. She spent two years as the ceramics studio technician at Marshall University in Huntington, WV and five years as the Education Manager at Belger Arts Center in Kansas City, MO.Â

Roan SarroÂ

Roan Sarro is the creative mastermind behind KattSplat! - a local Portland business that makes spooky fun ceramics. As a compulsive puzzle-solver and mold maker extraordinaire, she's always walking the tightrope between play and experimentation. Her art combines a youthful sense of wonder with a love of the horrific and apocalyptic. Ingenuity and indulgence in a vast array of mixed media help her to incorporate a playfulness in her work that's inherent in her personality.
Roan received her BFA in Ceramics from the Oregon College of Art and Craft in 2012. She lives, teaches, and makes art in Portland, Oregon but secretly wishes to disappear into the wilderness to join a pack of wild coyotes, never to be heard from again.
Check out her work on Instagram! @kattsplat
